During his stay, Rikitake photographed a variety of subjects on the island, including nature, creatures, culture, and human relations, from the perspective of neither islanders nor tourists. Rikitake laid out this book following his intuition, without categorizing each subject according to preconceived notions. The artist believes the book will highlight his neutral attitude toward this island and bring new perspectives to the readers. The title of the book, “Yugami (distortion)”, remains a mystery. However, Rikitake is convinced that the word best describes these photographs.
